The center of the island of Martinique
is dominated by the Pitons du Carbet,
a scenic mountain range reaching 1196 m.
This area is characterized by a thick wet tropical forest (hygrophile
tropical forest) with anthuriums, balisiers, high tree ferns, bamboo
groves, climbing vines and hardwood trees like mahogany, rosewood,
locust and gommier. From the altitude 700 m, the vegetation becomes
less dense and reveals splendid panoramas on the island.
The 5 Pitons du Carbet are the Piton Lacroix or Morne Pavillon (1196
m), the Piton de l'Alma (1105 m), the Piton Dumauzé (1109 m),
the Piton Boucher (1070 m) and the Morne Piquet (1160 m).

Le Plateau Boucher, Savanna
in the tropical forest, is the starting point to many excursions to
the Pitons du Carbet.The Trace of the Pitons, sporting excursion of
5h30, start from tropical forest to reach lichens on summits.
Other excursions like the excursion of the river Alma, the excursions
Caplet (Morne Vert)- Fonds-Saint-Denis, Morne Cesaire or Verrier-Absalon
make it possible to discover this area of the Pitons.
